Fresh off another nomination for the YYC Music Awards, Airdrie country singer Brandon Lorenzo dropped his latest single on July 28, and you could argue it's "One Of A Kind."
The upbeat track – a reworking of another tune called "One of a Kind" – fuses country vibes with a hint of rock and roll, creating a captivating melody that aims to get people dancing.
The origins behind the song dates back to 2019, when Brandon first came across the original track, written by songwriters Doug Folkins and Ryan Hydro.
"I always liked the song, and I knew it suited my style because I take a lot of inspiration from ‘90s country, giving it that old-school feel," Lorenzo said.
The song was performed at shows prior to its official release and received positive feedback from audiences.
Now that the studio version is out, Lorenzo couldn't be happier with the final outcome.
"We kept it pretty original to how it sounded when the original writers sent it to me, but I added my own flair and made it more ‘90s country with a modern twist," Lorenzo said.
“The response so far has been fantastic, [the song] has been out for four days now and there’s been some great comments.”
The excitement doesn't end there for Lorenzo, as he recently received a nomination for the 2023 YYC Music Awards’ People's Choice Award for his earlier single, "You Set the Bar."
"The People's Choice Award is just great because it's all based on the fans and people who support your career,” he said. “Having won the award in 2020 and now being nominated again is super cool, and it's truly an honour for me as a locally made artist."
With a bright future in music ahead of him, Lorenzo is focused on building on his recent momentum. He expressed gratitude to his fans and the music community for their unconditional support and promised to continue delivering memorable performances and music experiences.
When asked about his plans for the remainder of the year, Lorenzo revealed an exciting slate of shows that are scheduled from summer to fall.
“We are at Big Valley Jamboree this coming weekend, Ranchman’s in Calgary, and some brand new music that’s planned to come out closer to the fall,” he said.
