The Airdrie 1st Club is hoping the public will support its ongoing Christmas Hamper Program amid sky-high demand this holiday season.

Airdrie 1st Club is seeking donations and sponsors for its ongoing Christmas Hamper Program, amid high demand for the hampers this holiday season.

According to the club's post on its Facebook page earlier this week, it is seeking financial donations as well as donations of gift cards.

“We need gift card donations for grocery stores and department stores,” the group wrote. “We build our hampers with these. The most commonly needed gift card donation amount that we use for these is $25. We will take any denomination, but the $25 increments are able to go very far.”

The group confirms gift card donations can be dropped off a Quest Braces at 106 Sierra Springs Dr SE in Airdrie, but members of the group will also swing by and pick up donations if that is more convenient.

Financial donations for the hamper program can also be e-transferred to and other inquiries can be made at [email protected]. Donations of over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt.

Airdrie 1st Club is also seeking sponsors to make Christmastime extra special for some local families in particular need this year.

“We need sponsors for an entire family,” the group stated on social media. “This is typically $500 to $1000 and more for larger families in need. If you have the means to sponsor an entire family, we would love it if you could consider our program to support.”

Airdrie 1st Club hopes several locals might consider banding together to make this special sponsorship donation, if it is too much for a single family or individual to bear.

“Anyone who can organize a group of people to come together to all split the donation in support of a sponsorship,” the post stated.

Airdrie 1st Club expects to see increased demand for its hampers and sponsorships this year, given the difficult economic times many Airdronians are experiencing amid high inflation at the moment.

“We are just barely into December when we expect the largest volume of applicants and we are seeing huge numbers of Airdronians in need,” it says.

The Airdrie 1st Club, formerly known as the Airdrie Lioness Club, has been conducting its annual Christmas Hamper Program in Airdrie since 1977.

Last year the club supported 372 families and 1,160 people in the community at Christmastime.
