Wildlife experts often tell hikers that if they’ve spent any significant time on trails in the Bow Valley, they’ve likely been within about 10 metres of a cougar and never knew it.

The emergency centre says three of four property owners in the City of Kelowna have already been contacted to confirm "significant" structural damage, along with the owners of three properties in the District of Lake Country.

"Who those groups are and their motivations behind the shooting are still not clear. However, we do not believe there's any risk to the community at this time," said Edmonton Police Service (EPS) acting chief Darren Derko. 

“St. Albert RCMP is requesting assistance from the public in checking surveillance cameras for suspicious vehicles or activity in these areas.”
