With Christmas quickly approaching, the Madden Agricultural Society is hosting an event that will be sure to put people in the Christmas mood, and maybe even awaken a hidden talent.
On Dec. 2, beginning at 10:00 am at the Madden Hall, an all day Christmas crafts event will be taking place. Attendees can look forward to creating classic holiday season crafts, like wreaths, an outdoor planter insert, and even their own Grinch Tree.
Crafts will be made all day, from 10-11:30 am, then again from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, and then finally at 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
Anyone worried about their wreath building skills need not worry, according to Monica Gibson, the host of the event.
“Anybody can come, and they will end up with the same design I usually have,” she said.
Gibson last held a crafts-building exercise at Madden in October when almost 20 guests worked to build their own Thanksgiving centrepieces.
“It’s kind of nice where I could be at the front of the room and give the instruction,” said Gibson, who brings her daughter and mother with her to act as coaches giving helpful instruction to attendees throughout the day.
Gibson supplies all of the day’s materials herself–she runs a small business called Monica’s Flower Boutique Sweetpea and Sunshine in Carstairs, and only requires that people who are coming bring their own pruners or clippers, if they have them.
A Google Form has been set up for interested parties to sign up for the Christmas crafts day, on the form it asks what people want to build and offers different colours and ornaments to make it festive or unique to the builder.
Gibson said that the construction of the crafts requires some work but her experience running these workshops and craft days tell her that guests almost always leave happy and satisfied with what they’ve created.
“Everybody’s happy with the products.” she said. “They last a long time…the longevity of the porch pot could honestly last until spring.”
