Proposed Bearspaw daycare hits the brakes

Rocky View County (RVC) said they could not provide information on whether the developer has plans to continue with their development in the future.
Rocky View County council reviewed and approved a service plan to address the 2016 audit.

The proposed child care facility in Bearspaw took a step backwards this week as the landowner withdrew the rezoning application needed to build the facility.

Rocky View County (RVC) said they could not provide information on whether the developer has plans to continue with their development in the future.

The proposed facility was to accommodate up to 450 children and would require 8.9 hectares of residential land to be redesignated as business and recreation district in order to accommodate the daycare facility.

The landowner is the corporation that owns the campus of Renert School, a private school roughly 3.5 kilometers southeast of the property, in the City of Calgary.

An information session was held for neighbouring land owners on Jan. 18.

A letter was mailed in October 2022 to the adjacent landowner whose residence is closest to the proposed child-care facility and an open house was held at the Rocky Ridge Ranch Homeowners’ Association building on May 25, 2023.

In response to the proposal, one neighbour voiced his clear opposition early on and claimed others were also opposed to the development.

The company felt its proximity to existing and future non-residential uses would make it compatible and appropriate to the area.
