SavageFest has officially teamed up with the Crossfield Rodeo Society to host this year’s 2023 music festival, which for the first time is falling on Canada Day.

On July 1, SavageFest will be hosting their annual music festival at the Crossfield Rodeo Grounds in support of military veterans. Gates to the event will open at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and come to an end at 2 a.m. on July 2.

President of the Crossfield Rodeo Society and local Town councillor, Joanne Fox, said they are expecting high numbers at this year’s festival. According to Fox, Crossfield’s campground is already sold out in anticipation of the event.

“We’re thinking minimum three to four thousand people,” she said on June 23.

According to Fox, SavageFest teamed up with the Rodeo Society because the land where they previously held their festival was sold in 2022. Fox said a lot of planning was needed to make the event come to fruition this year.

Fox noted SavageFest was more of a private event starting out. Due to the increase in attendees, they had to look at ALGC regulations, Alberta Health Services, and other legal permits to make it happen.

Several other groups are involved with the festival. The Crossfield Ag Society will be hosting a pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. and the Farmers Market will also be on site for anyone interested in checking out local vendors.

Proceeds of the events will be going to the Homes for Heroes Foundation, which supports military veterans.

Featured bands performing at the festival include The Scarecrows, Pillow Fight, KellyT Overdrive, Sorry Not Sorry, Vinyl Trax Rockabilly, Front Line, and Machine Gun Rabbit.

Fox, who is also a town councillor, claimed this will be the first Canada Day event ever held in the town of Crossfield.

“It’s quite a milestone,” she said.
