Rocky View County (RVC) council’s approval of a new Master Rates Bylaw means some fees will increase this year.

The bylaw outlines the rates the municipality charges for providing goods and services, deputy municipal clerk Tyler Andreasen told council at a regular meeting Feb. 25.

“This bylaw is typically reviewed and updated as part of the County’s annual budgeting process,” he said.

Water and sewer services in three areas of the County will be increased to move towards full cost recovery, Andreasen said. Sewer services in Langdon will increase by an average of $2 per month, while non-residential sewer fees in East RVC will see a hike of around $10 per month. In Bragg Creek, water fees will go up by an average of $3 per month, with sewer fees jumping an average of $7 per month.

A number of new fees are also introduced in the bylaw. New fees associated with the Special Events Bylaw, passed at the same meeting, are added for applications and road inspections – non-profit groups will be exempt from these fees. Andreasen said fees to rent County Hall were also included to align with a future policy.

Additionally, the bylaw empowers the County’s CAO or their delegate to waive fees if warranted under extenuating circumstances.

The bylaw received three unanimous readings and, according to a County press release, the new fees will come into effect May 1.

Coun. Jerry Gautreau was absent from the meeting and Coun. Mark Kamachi – summoned away to attend to a personal matter – did not cast a vote.
