A 35-year-old man from Calgary was killed in a three vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 566 near Keoma April 8.
According to a press release from Airdrie RCMP, around 1 p.m. the man's vehicle collided with the fuel tanks of a semi-trailer that was travelling northbound on Highway 9.
"The driver and lone occupant of the care...was transported from the scene by STARS air ambulance to a Calgary hospital," the release stated. "He later died as a result of his injuries sustained in the collision. His name will not be released."
The driver of the semi-trailer was not injured.
Following the collision, Highway 9 was closed to allow first responders to work safely. Some diesel fuel spilled from the semi-trailer and was cleaned by hazardous materials crews. Following an investigation by Airdrie Rural RCMP – with assistance from the RCMP Collision Analyst – the highway was reopened in the evening.
According to the release, no charges are anticipated and no further updates will be provided.
