Rocky View County (RVC) council unanimously passed a resolution endorsing grant funding to support a vegetation-debris disposal program during a regular meeting March 10.

“This is the third year that the County has applied for funding through the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA),” said Fire Chief Randy Smith said. “Once again, we were successful in getting a $16,000 grant.”

According to Smith, the grant will go toward Chipper Days in Bragg Creek, an initiative intended to reduce local fire risks.

“Typically, the County will offer a location in Bragg Creek for residents to drop off dead wood material from their properties, which the County then chips,” said Bart Goemans, manager of Marketing and Communications.

Dates have not yet been set for this year’s Chipper Days, but Goemans said the event is expected to be held in June and September.

Deputy Reeve Al Schule was absent from the meeting.
