Attempted break-and-enter in Bearspaw

A resident of Alexa Close in Bearspaw experienced a scary situation Aug. 11, after two men allegedly used a crowbar to attempt to pry open the door to the residence, according to Cochrane RCMP Officer Cst. Jennifer Brewer.

The suspects pulled up to the home shortly after 7 p.m., according to RCMP, in two separate vehicles – a red Mitsubishi Endeavour and a black Nissan Pathfinder.

The homeowner called out that they were calling the police, which caused the suspects to flee, according to Brewer.

“They never came into actual contact with these men, but they were able to call out through the door…and scare them off,” she said, adding the homeowner did “everything right” in the situation.

“It’s safest not to engage, when someone is trying to break into your house. Don’t approach them or go toe-to-toe with them. What this person did – calling out through a closed door – was excellent.”

One suspect was described by police as a skinny, Caucasian male. He wore a black hoodie, a red jacket with reflective stripes about halfway down the forearm on both sleeves, black pants, sneakers and a blue or black baseball hat.

The second male – who was holding the crowbar – had a thicker build and wore a red polo shirt with the collar popped, as well as a black or blue hat, dark coloured pants and black sneakers.

Suspect sought

As of Aug. 14, Cochrane RCMP is seeking public assistance in locating 21-year-old Morley resident Malik Holloway, in relation to an attempted murder that occurred Aug. 4 on the Stoney Nakoda First Nation, west of Cochrane.

According to a press release from the detachment, RCMP members responded at approximately 6 p.m. to a report of a male in serious medical distress. Upon arrival, the officers determined the male had been injured during a serious assault.

The victim was transported to a Calgary hospital with serious, undetermined injuries.

An investigation led to a warrant for Holloway’s arrest. He is described by police as an Indigenous male with black hair and brown eyes. He weighs approximately 160 pounds and is five-foot-eleven, with several small tattoos on his face, including a one-inch cross under his left eye.

Anyone with information on Holloway’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at P3Tips.com or by using the P3 Tips app, available through the Apple app store or Google play store.
