“What’s the big deal about Easter?” Is it simply another holiday from work or school? Is it simply another time for family get-togethers and dinners?

A poet once wrote: “Earth’s saddest day (Good Friday) and earth’s gladdest day (Easter Sunday) were only one day apart.” Christ changed sunset into sunrise.

According to the Bible, on Good Friday Jesus died on the cross to experience death as payment for the sins of the world. It was indeed earth’s saddest day. It points out the sadness of our own failures and sins and our own impending death.

According to the Bible, on Easter Sunday, Jesus rose from the dead and proved that He is the Son of God and that His death and resurrection had fully opened the way to life eternal for us. Jesus had said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die” (John 11:25).

Because Jesus rose we can trust all His words and promises. By that gospel message the Holy Spirit unites us with Christ by faith, and by that faith we have eternal life! We live a new life in hope, joy, and love as the living Jesus lives in us by faith. Easter is a celebration of life through Jesus!

We invite you to worship with us at this special time and know this new life also. Mountain View Lutheran Church is in Springbank just south of Highway 1 at the Old Banff Coach Rd. interchange. Our Good Friday worship is March 29 at 7 p.m. We pause to commemorate the death of our Lord in a solemn yet beautiful service. Our Easter Sunday “Son-rise” service is at 7:30 a.m.. Join us for an Easter breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Our Easter Festival Worship service is at 10 a.m.
