Dear Tammy,

I am feeling blue and feel like I have a lack of energy ever since the snow started to fall, and the time change happened. What can I do to feel better and increase my energy?

T.S.

Hello T.S.,

Thank you for your question. This is definitely something that I get asked often, especially recently with the weather changes. To help get through this winter season, I would recommend that firstly you be sure to continue to remain active, and stay in your usual routines. The more you stay around the house, and don’t do anything, the more you are going to get deeper into the winter funk. Secondly, find an existing winter activity or project to keep you busy and motivated. Thirdly, be sure to get some exercise to keep those positive endorphins flowing through your body.

Hello Tammy,

I am struggling with setting boundaries with my in-laws. I am in a new relationship and already I feel like I am struggling with my in-laws. How do I get my partner to communicate to them, or should I be communicating to them myself? This is really stressing me out and it makes me feel anxious every time I think about it.

L.S.

Hi L.S.,

I can understand how difficult and uncomfortable it can be when you are in a new relationship and struggling with the in-laws already. The best thing to do is to talk to your partner and be sure to let him know how you are feeling. Communication with your partner is key. I also think that it is best for your partner to be the one to talk to his parents, especially because you are new to the situation. What you can do, however, is show your in-laws your best self. Show them who you are, the fun, caring, positive you.

It could be that they are reacting to you because they are unsure of you and don’t adjust to change in the family structure well.

Writer’s Comment:

It looks like winter has finally moved in! As I mentioned in the earlier comment, be sure to get out of the house as much as possible.

Change the way you look at things, if possible. For example – it’s not cold, it’s brisk!

You aren’t freezing your kneecaps off, you’re being re-energized! A great winter activity that is guaranteed to make you feel good is to volunteer at a local charity.

There are many ways to give a little during the winter and holiday season. As an added bonus, not only will you be helping others but you will also feel good about your efforts. Definitely a win/win scenario.

If you feel you need someone to talk to or help getting through the winter blues or to set new goals for yourself, contact Tammy @ [email protected] or 403-969-7409.
