Letter: Leave downtown Airdrie alone, says senior

Dear editor, I think older people should have more of a say before we decided to change Airdrie’s downtown area.

Re: "Public opinion divided over future of Main Street," article, July 15, Airdrie City View

Dear editor,

I think older people should have more of a say before we decided to change Airdrie’s downtown area. We can already be dropped off, travel from one end to the other and get everything we need just by walking from store to store. Everything we need is already there, from food to footware, clothing stores and medical facilities. Downtown Airdrie is already the most welcoming place for us seniors. Please leave it alone – we don’t want any high rises.

Who do you think made the park, the museum, the mini railway and all the churches along Main Street? Now the younger generation wants to ruin Airdrie by putting up a high rise building in the city’s centre? Shame on anyone who thinks this is a good idea. It is just another money grab that would ruin a lovely small-town centre.

Seniors, I propose we get together and squish this idea, to at least try to save some of our old Airdrie.
