Dear editor,

It is reprehensible that Lehigh Hanson and Rocky View County (RVC) would schedule a council hearing pertaining to the Scott Property gravel pit application when it is impossible for a true representation of Bearspaw residents to attend due to COVID-19.

I challenge our elected officials to effectively express their own heartfelt feelings, along with those of their affected neighbours, about something that would destroy their quality of life, the health of their family and the value of their home on a Zoom call. Sitting in a car waiting for a chance to speak is akin to telling your children to go to their room until required.

I respectfully request council postpones any hearings about the Scott Property project until a council chamber full of citizens can attend. Otherwise, council might as well rubber stamp the project and ignore constituents’ right to represent themselves in person.

At a certain point, constituents have to have priority over a gravel pit dropped into the middle of a residential neighbourhood.
