Faith in God helps when life doesn't seem fair

Here is some news that I would just as soon not remind you of. Life is not fair. Now you probably know that already.

Here is some news that I would just as soon not remind you of. Life is not fair. Now you probably know that already.

Maybe even today you had an experience and you concluded, “this is not fair!” Children play together, until one of them takes advantage of the other and the words are spoken, “that’s not fair!”

This is not just something that is reserved for children, for we all experience those times when life leaves a package at the door that we didn’t expect. We’re walking through life when suddenly something happens that sends your life heading south. And we are left with that overwhelming thought, “Will I ever make it through this?”

We often doubt we will. We have those experiences that stretch us to the limit of our endurance and we wonder if we will ever see the end of it. In my family a few weeks ago, my niece announced that when she turned 18, she was leaving home... and she did.

I have a son who is finding college a challenge and as I try to come along side of him I wonder, “will we see the end of this?” The fortunate thing in all of this is that I have been reading a very helpful book by Max Lucado entitled, You’ll Get Through This.

If you are going through turbulent times, I recommend you read this book. The title is the theme of hope that runs throughout the whole book. It invites us to embrace God’s promise that with His help, you can get through whatever you are facing right now.

Facing a divorce? With God’s help, you’ll make it. Facing financial difficulties? God promises that with His help you will make it. It may seem impossible but when our hope rests in God, God finds a way to get us through. You see, the greatness of the promise is that God is not far from any of us.

We often go through life unaware that God is present. Envision your life in the next few hours. You may be on a highway, at home or at school, but God’s presence lingers there. Acts 17:27 says of God, “...He is not far from each of us.” God does not play favourites, He is not more with me than He is with you. All people can enjoy His presence. But often we don’t. We go through life as if it’s all up to us. But if you and I put our hope in God, we will make it. Sounds simple. But something good doesn’t have to be complicated.

A child once declared to her parents one day, “God is with me all the time, in fact he lives inside me!”

The little girl’s parents didn’t quite know what to say and so they asked, “Well, how do you know God lives inside of you?” And the little girl simply replied, “Easy! Every time I put my hand on my chest, I feel Him walking inside of me!” God says, “You will make it because I am wherever you are.”

Perhaps today you don’t want to trouble God with your problems or your hurts.

After all, He’s got bigger things to deal with. But if God says that with His help you will make it through your mess, don’t you think it’s worth the try? Don’t you think it’s worth asking for His help?

We all need to hear those words from God, “You’re going to make it!” in life sometimes.

The good news is that God keeps His promises. And He will keep this promise to you if you will ask Him for His help.
