Airdrie puts on another great air show

This past weekend Airdrie was host to the second Airdrie Regional Air show and the show did not disappoint.

This past weekend Airdrie was host to the second Airdrie Regional Air show and the show did not disappoint. During two beautiful sunny days thousands of spectators were entertained by numerous planes and jets from bi-planes to a F-16 jet to Canada’s own Snowbirds. As impressive as the show was, even more impressive was how well run the show went thanks to Mayor Peter Brown and his organizing committee.

I was a volunteer on Wednesday to help set up for the show and the difference in the grounds from Wednesday to Saturday was amazing. The site went from a vast openness of grass to what looked like a small midway. There were numerous food and retail vendors, a kids play area, an area for seniors, beer gardens and various tents for volunteers, media, sponsors and VIPs.

This year I took the bus, as I thought it would have saved time and the headache of finding parking. If you didn’t know there was a show going on, you would have thought from the traffic, or lack there of, that there was no show. The parking committee did an outstanding job of getting people off the highway and into their parking spots with only very minimal traffic jams.

Lineups for everything from the ticket entrance to food vendors to washrooms were almost a non factor. The organizing group and the volunteers ran a wonderful show.

This is just another event put on by the amazing people of Airdrie that helps showcase Airdrie and all the great things that we can offer.

My hope is that this show does become a regular event in Airdrie, with it growing in both entertainers and spectators.

Congratulations and job well done.
