About 40 players are expected to attend the Airdrie Thunder tryout camp between Sept. 2 and 5.

General manager Frank McEvoy said registration, which must be completed before the first ice time at 8 p.m. on Sept. 2, is open to all eligible players.

“We’re looking for a lot of young Airdrie players, of all positions, to come out,” he said.

“It will be a good experience for them and allow them to find out what junior camp is all about.”

The Thunder will run inter-squad games all weekend, culminating with the annual Red and White game at 4 p.m. on Labour Day Monday.

Woodside Men’s Open set to run

The annual Woodside Golf Course Men’s Open Championship will take place at the course on Sept. 3 and 4.

The 36-hole flighted tournament, featuring a 9 a.m. shotgun start each day, will see 84 area golfers competing for the title.

“The field is pretty strong this year for the championship flight,” said Chris McNicol, executive director at Woodside.

“We have three returning champions.”

Two champions will be crowned: one for overall gross (lowest stroke total) and one for overall net, which factors in a golfer’s handicap.
