Sports Shorts: Rattie scores as Canada defeats Russia

• Local hockey star Ty Rattie, currently playing for the Portland Winterhawks, suited up for Team WHL as they took on Team Russia in the 2011 Subway Super Series. Rattie played in the Nov. 16 game in Regina. Team WHL defeated the Russians 6-3, with Rattie scoring a goal and an assist.

• The AC Avalanche tied the NWCAA Bruins 2-2, Nov. 12. The team’s next home action will be Nov. 27 against the Red Deer Iroc Chiefs. The Avalanche will then play two home games before a six-game road swing.

The Dec. 3 game will be held at the Ron Ebbesen Arena in Airdrie and the Dec. 4 game will be held at the Totem Arena in Cochrane.

• The Bow Valley Bobcats football team lost 22-14 to the St. Timothy’s Thunder in the Alberta Schools Athletic Association’s (ASAA) Tier IV regional semifinals.

• The Cochrane Lions Bantam football club defeated the Rocky Jr. Rebels 47-0 in the Tier III provincial semifinals, Nov. 12.

• Airdrie gymnasts Corissa Boychuk and Janelle Desmarais-Moen competed for Team Canada at the 2011 Trampoline and Tumbling World Championships in Birmingham, England, Nov. 17-20. Results were not available at press time. Boychuk is the reigning world champion in the double mini trampoline event.
