Sport Shorts: RVSA schedules set to resume

The Rocky View Sports Association’s basketball schedule will resume on Jan. 10.

On the boys’ side, the Bert Church Chargers will visit the provincially No. 1-ranked Chestermere Lakers, while the Springbank Phoenix will be in Airdrie to challenge the George McDougall Mustangs. Both games are at 7:45 p.m.

On the girls’ side, the Mustangs visit the Phoenix, Jan. 11 at 7:45 p.m., while the Chargers will visit the Lakers Jan. 12 at 6 p.m.

The Airdrie Curling Club is hosting the southern Alberta Ladies’s playdowns this weekend. Action will run, with two draws each day, from Jan. 6-9. The A-side semifinals will be at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 7, with the finals at 2:30 p.m.

The Airdrie Thunder will look to extend its six-game winning streak when it hosts the Mountainview Colts for its first game of 2012, Jan. 6. Puck drop is 8 p.m. at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.

The Airdrie Xtreme will begin its run toward an Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League playoff spot, when it resumes its schedule at home against the Okotoks Oilers, Jan. 8. Puck drop is at 1 p.m. at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.
