Sport Shorts: Eight Lightning players will represent Airdrie at all-star games this weekend

The Airdrie Lightning program will send several players to the three South Central Alberta Hockey League (SCAHL) all-star games in Red Deer this weekend. The Midget AA, Bantam AA and Peewee AA games will all take place on Jan.

The Airdrie Lightning program will send several players to the three South Central Alberta Hockey League (SCAHL) all-star games in Red Deer this weekend.

The Midget AA, Bantam AA and Peewee AA games will all take place on Jan. 15 at the Red Deer Arena. The Peewees will take the ice at 10 a.m., the Bantams at 12:15 p.m. and the Midget players at 2:45 p.m.

At the Midget level, three players will represent the SCAHL’s North Division, as the Lightning will loan forward Craig Fraser, defenceman Lukas Pollock and goaltender James Fisk. For the Bantams, Airdrie will send forward Keegan Ziemer, defenceman Owen Sigurdson and goalie Jake Carlson. In the Peewee all-star game, forward Gary Haden and defenceman Jacob Gillespie will represent the Lightning in Red Deer.

As part of the weekend, there will be an all-star banquet at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 15.

Beginning on Jan. 13 and ending on Jan. 15, the Airdrie FC soccer program will host its inaugural Blizzard Buster 24-hour competitive indoor soccer tournament at Genesis Place.

The event, the first of its kind to be hosted at the indoor fields in Airdrie, will feature 19 teams. It will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Jan. 13; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Jan. ; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Jan 15.
