Rocky View funds Chestermere athletic park

Chestermere Athletics Association (CAA) will receive a cash injection of $132,650 for enhancements to the Chestermere High School.

Chestermere Athletics Association (CAA) will receive a cash injection of $132,650 for enhancements to the Chestermere High School.

Rocky View County council approved the funding, June 28, to assist the group in purchasing field lights to extend practice time, promote safety for athletes and improve spectators’ view.

“With this funding… the Athletic Park will become a community hub, able to host a variety of school and community sporting events during the evening hours,” said Reeve Rolly Ashdown. “The lights help the athletes to navigate the field and add longer hours of use. We applaud the efforts of the Chestermere Athletics Association for their hard work in enhancing the Athletic Park for the school and community to use.”

The CAA has already raised about $106,000 through a variety of fundraising efforts.

The first four phases of the project included the installation of an irrigation system, tower and storage facility, scoreboard and bleachers.

The County has already contributed $54,500 toward the project, which is estimated to cost $293,000. Three Rocky View County recreation boards and Rocky View Schools have contributed.

The athletic park is used by both school and community teams for football, soccer and rugby games and practices.
