The Airdrie Ice Users Alliance has added another fundraising event in its continued effort to ‘Raise the Rinks.

The Airdrie Ice Users Alliance has added another fundraising event in its continued effort to ‘Raise the Rinks.’

The campaign to raise $4-million for the new twin arenas at Genesis Place has announced plans for an inaugural Airdrie Sports Legacy ‘Raise the Rinks’ golf tournament, set for Aug. 25 at Woodside Golf Club.

The tournament will be a community endeavour between the Woodside Golf Course and the Ice Users Alliance, made up of Airdrie’s Minor Hockey Association, the Airdrie Skating Club, the Airdrie Ringette Association and the Airdrie Regional Recreation Enhancement Society (ARRES).

Jaeson Jaman, chairman of the golf tournament, said the goal of the tournament is to raise awareness of the new twin arenas and to provide individuals a fun environment to leave a legacy of support in the community.

“The idea is to celebrate local winter sports athletes who have shown through hard work and determination that dreams can come true,” he said.

Local NHL’ers Dana Tyrell, centre for the Tampa Bay Lightning, and Zach Boychuk from the Carolina Hurricanes, as well as Ty Rattie, recently drafted 32nd overall by the St. Louis Blues, are all expected to be in attendance.

“We’ve also had positive reactions from the Calgary Flames alumni and we expect to be swapping stories with them as well,” Jaman said.

The tourney itself will be a best ball format at 1:30 p.m. at Woodside on Aug. 25. Tickets, which include course fees and cart, a sit down dinner and silent auction, are $200 each and include an $80 tax receipt supplied by ARRES. Please see the ARRES website at www.arres.ca for more information on other Airdrie athletes as they come on board and to sign up for the tournament.
