New exercise program coming to Crossfield

Jazzercise will be coming to Crossfield May 1, and a local resident will offer a multitude of programs at the Trickt Out Gymnastics Club.

Jazzercise will be coming to Crossfield May 1, and a local resident will offer a multitude of programs at the Trickt Out Gymnastics Club.

After hearing the need for the 40-year-old art of jazzercise in Crossfield, Casey Yousph, a certified jazzercise instructor, took it upon herself to set up the program.

“I have had a huge response from the community,” said Yousph. “Crossfield doesn’t have a lot of programs run by the town. Everyone is really excited about the open house and the class starting.”

An open house on April 23, which will showcase the studio at Trickt Out Gymnastics, will give residents an idea of what jazzercise is about and include door prizes for anyone who attends.

Jazzercise has been around for four decades and incorporates dance-based cardio and strength training in a 60-minute class that can burn upwards of 600 calories each session.

“It’s for all ages and fitness levels. A lot of people have heard of it, it’s not your latest fad workout,” said Yousph. “It’s like a fusion style workout, there will be jazz moves, hip hop moves and resistance training. There are real results for real people.”

Starting in May, the classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.

One popular aspect of the Tuesday and Thursday classes will be the opportunity for parents to bring their children to participate in the gym’s Tumbleweek class.

“For me it really works, it’s the closest thing to a girls’ night out that you can get, it’s a lot of fun,” said Yousph. “I will have a childcare provider for up to two-year-olds, and moms are very excited.”

The cost of the program will be $45 per month, with drop in classes valued at $12. Yousph says compared to other facilities in the region, costs are low.

“A lot of what I have been hearing (with other programs) is it’s like getting a second mortgage,” said Yousph. “Some of these gyms are so fancy, you are paying for a juice bar and towel services. (Our program) you can cancel at any time, it’s not a huge binding contract.”

Anyone interested in taking part is invited to the open house on April 23 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 1014 Laut Ave in Crossfield.
