The George McDougall Mustangs will take on the Cochrane Cobras this afternoon to determine RVS football supremacy.

In a repeat of last year's final, the George McDougall Mustangs football team will look to topple the Cochrane Cobras' six-year winning streak in the Rocky View Sports Association's (RVSA) divisional championship game this afternoon.

The 7-2 Mustangs will take on the unbeaten Cobras at Bow Valley High School later today, with kick-off slated for 4 p.m.

The Airdrie-vs.-Cochrane tilt marks the second year in a row these two teams have played each other for the RVSA banner. Last year, the Cobras defeated the Mustangs in overtime following a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback from George McDougall.

The Cobras are the RVSA's perennial powerhouse. Last year, the Mustangs beat the Cobras in the regular season, and it marked Cochrane High's first defeat to a divisional rival since 2014.

George Mac booked their berth in today's title tilt after beating their local rivals, the W.H. Croxford Cavaliers, 35-7 in last Friday's RVSA semi-final.

As a result of last week's defeat, the Cavaliers (6-2) will play in the division's 'B' playoff semi-final against the Springbank Phoenix this afternoon. The game will take place at 3:30 p.m. at Ed Eggerer Athletic Park in Airdrie.

Airdrie's other high-school football team, the Bert Church Chargers, are also in the RVSA's 'B' semi-finals, and will be taking on the Chestermere Lakers at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Utley Field at Chestermere High School.

Regardless of what happens in today's championship game, both the Mustangs and the Cobras will advance to a Zones qualifier game the following week for Alberta Schools Athletic Association's (ASAA) high-school football provincials. That is because George McDougall is the RVSA's Tier II representative, while the Cobras are the RVSA's Tier I representative.
