Airdrie baseball product Ayden Makarus is starting to get used to his Team Canada jersey.

The 17-year-old Okotoks Dawgs Academy catcher featured in the Canadian junior national team's spring training camp in Palm Beaches, Florida, from April 17 to 28.

The trip marked Makarus' third time playing with Canada's top 30 U18 baseball players, after participating in the junior national team's fall instructional league in October 2018 and the team's first spring training camp in mid-March.

Makarus said his experience in Florida featured daily practice sessions and exhibition games against some of Major League Baseball's extended spring training clubs, including the Houston Astros, the Washington Nationals and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Makarus, who will graduate this June from Foothills Composite High School, in Okotoks, was one of just two players from Alberta on the team. The other was 17-year-old infielder Cesar Valero, of Calgary.
