It may not have been earned in the fashion he wanted, but Cochrane’s Grant Profit took home the top spot from the Bonnyville Chuckwagon Championship, Aug. 7.

Heavy rains cancelled the final two days of racing, so Profit, who was in the lead with an aggregate time of 2:32.65 after the first two days, was declared the winner.

Second-place Luke Tournier was second by only 16 one-hundreds of a second.

It was the second win on the season for Profit who captured the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede in June.

Profit sat ninth after day one of the 2011 Battle of the North Championship in Dawson Creek, B.C., Aug. 10.

The finals on Aug. 14 were after the Rocky View Weekly went to press.

Team Alberta earned 117 medals during week one at the Western Canada Summer Games in Kamloops. B.C., good for second place behind B.C., but only one of four Rocky View Athletes were included in the haul.

It defeated Team Saskatchewan 65-59 in the third place game on Aug. 9.

Callum McNeice, also from Cochrane, lost his first match in 42-kilogram wrestling.

Swinging to Manitoba

Jacklyn Peloquin and Rylee Harlos from Prairie Royale Estates, as well as Riffel, are on the Bantam A Calgary Diamond Devils fast pitch team that won gold at provincials.
