City represents well at AWG

Airdrie athletes contributed 13 medals to Zone 2’s second place finish at the 2012 Alberta Winter Games in Spruce Grove, last weekend.

Airdrie athletes contributed 13 medals to Zone 2’s second place finish at the 2012 Alberta Winter Games in Spruce Grove, last weekend.

The Big Country Zone earned 93 medals, behind only Zone 3 (Calgary) and its 125 medals, at the four-day event, which ran from Feb. 9 to 12.

Kira-Nicole Lengkeek won gold in the age 11 to 13 female banked slalom snowboarding event. She also earned a silver medal in female slopestyle.

Gregory Cooper and Brandon Martin each earned silver for judo, in the 50-55 kg and 55-60 kg categories respectively.

Mikaelyn Sych and Nicole Cebak took silver in U-15 female volleyball, while Codie Cross and Alley Goodreau brought home silver in the female hockey tournament.

Connor Lengkeek brought home a silver medal in age 14-16 male banked slalom snowboarding. He also came in 10th spot in the male slopestyle.

Morgan Bratz and Brittany Jones took bronze with the female ringette team, while Dacey Brown and Megan Moffat took bronze in the U-16 junior female curling event.
