Airdrie defenseman drafted to WHL

The Prince Albert Raiders drafted Airdrie Xtreme defenseman Marshall Burr in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, May 3. Burr was the 155th pick in the draft’s eighth round.

The Prince Albert Raiders drafted Airdrie Xtreme defenseman Marshall Burr in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, May 3. Burr was the 155th pick in the draft’s eighth round.

He played 27 games with the Xtreme in the 2011-2012 season, recording five goals and eight assists.

Aces victorious

The Airdrie Aces Athletic Club opened the outdoor season at the Lethbridge Spring Meet, May 7 and came home with a total of 17 medals.

In the bantam boys category, Scott Chalupiak won gold in the 80-metre spring, 80-metre hurdles, 800-metre run and shot put while Adam Sleik won silver in the same events. Sleik also won bronze in the shot put.

Grace Gwozd won the bantam girls’ 80-metre sprint and 80-metre hurdle races and bronze in the shot put while Emily Rendell won gold in the 10-metre race. In the peewee girls category, Jasmine Szucs won gold in the long jump and shot put events and bronze in the 60-metre sprint. Sam Rajah took home gold in the 60-metre run and silver in the shot put while Lilie Szucs placed fifth in long jump.
