The Airdrie Fire Department participated in the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) annual hockey tournament in Grand Forks, N.D., March 20-15.

The Airdrie Attack team placed a respectable third in the C division. The team won the D division in 2010.

“Our team is extremely pleased with our third place finish in division C,” said Jeff McDiarmid, Airdrie firefighter and Attack team member.

“We worked very hard in the months leading up to this event to increase our fitness and skill level. Our two goalies were outstanding and every player on the ice definitely contributed 110 per cent for this finish.”

The majority of the games were played in the world-class Ralph Engelstad arena, which opened its doors in 2001 and has been host to many major hockey events including the 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

The IAFF tournament draws teams from across Canada and USA. Next year’s tournament will be held in Calgary.
