The Airdrie and District Tennis Association (ADTA) will host its Try Tennis event at Ralph McCall gym, Feb. 6, to introduce kids to the sport and benefit the local food bank.
The group will bring its “progressive tennis” gear, which includes modified rackets, balls, nets and courts, to help make the sport fun and easy for people at any level of competency.
“It’s for anybody really, you don’t even have to have kids to come out,” said Chris Simnett, ADTA president. “We put on these events and just get a racket in someone’s hand. If you don’t like it, that’s fine. At least you came out and tried it.”
The ADTA hosted five similar events over the last 15 months and hopes people will come to try something new in a friendly atmosphere.
“It’s just a way to expose people to the sport,” said Simnett. “If kids just want to go around with their friends and hit the ball around, that’s what it’s about.”
There will be prizes up for grabs and people can enter to win by bringing in a donation for the Airdrie Food Bank.
The event takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. For more information, visit www.airdrietennis.com
