After two years of being closed, the waterslide at the pool in Genesis Place has reopened.
The waterslide, which was first closed in August 2010 after a user fell from the slide, received some safety upgrades including the addition of banks on the curves to raise them up and increasing the water flow.
“We are happy to be able to offer the waterslide again,” said Greg Lockert, Genesis Place manager. “It’s a very popular amenity to the facility and we have noticed a decrease in numbers (since it closed).”
The slide will be open during public swim times and some rules, previously in place will be reinstated, according to Lockert.
Kids must be 42” tall to ride and double riding (two people holding on to one another) will not be allowed.
“These are the manufacturer suggested rules for operation and that is what we’ll be following,” said Lockert. “If everyone is safe then everyone is having fun.”
The slide will also be staffed at the top to ensure everyone is following the rules.
The City of Airdrie is currently hiring part-time waterslide attendants. For more information on Genesis Place or to apply for the position, visit www.airdrie.ca
Chiller update
A new chiller has been purchased for the Ron Ebbesen Arena and the City is expecting the ice to be ready by Sept. 1.
Staff viewed several of the tubes within the existing chiller and determined a new system was necessary. The new three ton chiller cost $65,000 and will be delivered in four or five weeks.
The Plainsmen Arena ice, which was scheduled to come out on June 1 for maintenance, will remain open until the new ice is ready at the Ron Ebbesen Arena.
