A homemade wooden equipment trailer was recently stolen from a rural property in Rocky View County near Bearspaw.

According to Cochrane RCMP Constable Jennifer Brewer, the owner of the trailer noticed it was missing Sept. 30 and the gate to the pasture on the property was broken.

Brewer said the owner last saw the trailer Sept. 25 and a neighbour noticed the gate was broken Sept. 27. The licence plate on the trailer was V05905.

Brewer said the trailer was empty and nothing else was stolen from the property.

Head-on collision

A head-on collision between two dump trucks in Rocky View County Oct. 7 sent three men to hospital with serious injuries.

According to Stuart Brideaux, public education officer with Alberta Health Services, the collision occurred on Range Road 11, north of Highway 566.

RCMP, Rocky View County fire crews and EMS from Calgary responded to the collision at approximately 10:45 a.m.

Brideaux said both dump trucks were hauling gravel and one of them was towing a large trailer. Both drivers and a passenger – all men in their 40s – were taken to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.

Brideaux said the driver of one of the trucks received head injuries and is in serious, life-threatening condition. A passenger that was in the same truck is in serious but stable condition with a possible leg fracture.

The driver of the other truck, which was hauling a trailer, remains in serious condition with abdominal and head injuries.

According to Brideaux, firefighters extricated both drivers from their vehicles but the passenger was able to remove himself prior to the arrival of EMS.

“We were able to gain access to the patients that were trapped quite quickly and had resources waiting at the scene to transport them once we had access,” Brideaux said.

STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched to the scene but the helicopter was not able to launch because of snowy weather conditions. Brideaux said there were nearly one dozen collisions north of Calgary Oct. 7.

“We seen that snowfall earlier to mid-morning and throughout the day there was two to three incidents where we may or may not have requested the services of a helicopter, it’s just the weather was too poor for them to launch,” Brideaux said.

All possible factors that may have caused the collision are being investigated.
