Three-year plan expected in May

Crossfield council approved the final draft of the three year plan, a document that describes what the organization has outlined for the coming years.

Crossfield council approved the final draft of the three year plan, a document that describes what the organization has outlined for the coming years.

The document will now be polished with a few minor details before being sent to the printers, in preparation for an open house in the third week of May.

Council is looking forward to presenting town residents with the document.

ìThis has been the culmination of 15 days over the past few months of council meeting with administration putting this thing together,î said Mayor Nathan Anderson. ìWe are trying to take the politics out of governing to provide residents with a predictable, responsible plan for the future.î

Anderson said the basic concept behind the three year-plan is eliminating the infrastructure deficit the Town is experiencing, while maintaining taxes at no more than the rate of inflation.

ìItís a very conservative approach to municipal government. We are ambitiously trying to erase our infrastructure deficit and lay out the plans for the next few years, while ensuring balanced budgets and not increasing taxes beyond the rate of inflation,î Anderson said.

Fire bylaw approved

The Fire Bylaw that was presented to council last month and had minor clerical errors has been reworked and approved by the Town.

The bylaw outlines a $50 fee for commercial fires, including thawing fires and a list of fines when certain guidelines are not met.

ìThe discussion was surrounding whether or not we should be charging a fee for commercial fires,î said Anderson.

Due to the fact that a fire department representative must be on site before the fires are lit, a fee must be included.

The bylaw does not levy any charges to residents who want to have a fire or barbecue in their backyard.

ìThere is no fee for people having a fire in their own backyards,î said Anderson. ìYou just have to have a proper fire pit, with cinderblocks and a spark arrestor.î
