Rocky View Schools (RVS) board unanimously gave first reading to a policy that will govern Internet privacy, Jan. 10.

CMC Internet Privacy Standards was created to comply with provincial guidelines and will be posted on all RVS websites.

The new policy states “personal information provided must be managed according to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.”

The new policy extends to any vendors or third-party suppliers associated with RVS.

Board appointment

Trustees Sylvia Eggerer and Bruce Pettigrew were appointed to sit on an ad-hoc committee that will develop expense reporting guidelines for RVS elected officials and senior staff, such as superintendent of schools.

The committee, which will be made up of trustees and senior staff, is being formed in response to Alberta Minister of Education Jeff Johnson’s desire to see all expenses incurred by elected officials and senior staff to be disclosed to the public.

Johnson did not provide regulations or a deadline for expense disclosure.

The committee will look at creating guidelines for consistent reporting and review expense rules, such as should there be a maximum per meal rate?

The committee will bring its recommendations to a future board meeting at a date yet to be announced.
