Rocky View County celebrated the launch of its new County Plan project on June 12, with County Reeve Rolly Ashdown starting a one-year countdown clock at County headquarters.
Over the next 12 months, residents are encouraged to complete a survey on their priorities for the future of the county. Staff will use this information to create a County Plan, which will guide development and services in Rocky View for the next decade.
“It is time we had an up-to-date master plan to reflect the current concerns and priorities of citizens in Rocky View County,” said Ashdown, noting the County’s current Municipal Development Plan (MDP) was adopted in 1998 and is now outdated.
“We look forward to setting a new path for the future, while preserving the unique characteristics that make the county such a great place to live.”
The document will be used to guide decisions on transportation, the environment, housing, agriculture, growth and other development priorities.
Ashdown said the County hopes to receive feedback from a minimum of 1,000 residents. County ambassadors will be out at various community events in the coming months to encourage residents to complete the survey.
“Council also recognizes the need for a timely completion of this project, and administration is committed to doing their very best to bring the proposed plan back to us within a one-year timeframe,” said Ashdown.
The countdown clock will be on display in the lobby of the County administration building on 32nd Ave. NE in Calgary.
The survey will be available on the County’s website and in paper form at the County building and community events.
“A great deal of thought went into ensuring that those affected by or interested in the plan have fair and equal access to the input process,” said County Senior Planner Richard Barss. “We anticipate many of the opportunities and challenges facing us will be brought to our attention by the public as we determine together what topics the County Plan should address.”
