The County’s top job has been filled after an eight-month vacancy.

Kevin Greig, who comes to Rocky View with more than 20 years of municipal government experience, was appointed June 19 after the seat sat empty since Nov. 23, 2012 when former manager Rob Coon resigned.

Reeve Rolly Ashdown said there was a large number of applications for the position.

“That’s reflective of Rocky View as a great community in which to live and work, and it gave council a deep pool of excellent candidates to choose from,” he said in a press release.

He added later it was a lengthy-process to review the many applications and to conduct interviews.

Ashdown said among the many reasons Greig was selected is that he is well-experienced and demonstrates good organizational skills.

“He’s got good values that we’re looking for and comes from municipalities with a similar nature and size,” said Ashdown.

Formerly, Greig served as the General Manager with the City of Victoria, the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Chief Administrative Officer with High Prairie and Breton.

“I’m delighted about the opportunity to serve council and residents of Rocky View County,” he stated in the press release.

“It will be a privilege to join the dedicated and progressive County staff, recognized for their efforts in fostering economic growth and sustaining quality of life.”

In the absence of a full-time manager, the County’s four general managers have been serving on a rotational basis. All staff report to the manager. Council provides direction and feedback through the County manager.
