A familiar voice has announced his intension to seek an alderman seat in the Oct. 21 municipal election.
Rob Jamieson, 33, a radio-personality for Air 106.1 FM, is hoping residents will be listening to his platform in the lead up to the election.
ìItís in my nature, in my blood to find the right thing to do,î he said.
Jamieson outlined his platform on Sept. 20 to the Airdrie City View, and while he admits he lacks experience at the political level, he will put his efforts into getting a 24-hour health facility, keeping living in Airdrie affordable and helping the Cityís first responders have the most up-to-date equipment and training available.
While health care and policing are both under provincial mandates, Jamieson uses the example of the City and interest groups rallying in the spring of 2011 to get three new schools built in Airdrie.
In addition to his official platform points, the Cityís infrastructure is also a concern the four-year resident of Airdrie.
ìWe need to be proactive with our roads, making them adequate (for the levels of vehicle traffic),î he explained, citing congestion on Windsong development and along 24th Street.
A choice and variety in building lot sizes, is also important to Jamieson.
While he lacks official experience in council chambers, Jamieson points out that he is the average age of the residents in Airdrie and know the issues facing them.
ìThat age group hasnít been represented at council before,î he said.
As to what makes him stand out among the rest of the candidates, Jamieson admits, ìwhat you see is what you get.î
ìI donít have an agenda,î he said. ìIt goes back to listening to people and to their stories. I want to talk to them and talk about what makes Airdrie great.î
Jamieson has the full support of his wife and sons and said he isnít nervous about going door-to-door campaigning.
ìI like listening to peopleís stories,î he said.
