A man accused of killing his common-law wife from Airdrie more than 10 years ago was ordered to stand trial in Calgary Oct. 5.

Duane Redelback is charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a human body in the death of Ruth Degayo.

Investigators from the Canmore RCMP detachment received a complaint of human remains found burned in an abandoned building in Exshaw in January 2006.

Through DNA testing, RCMP determined six weeks later the remains were those of 40-year-old Degayo. Redelback reported her missing prior to the test results.

Redelback was arrested and charged in Cochrane in September 2015.

Daniel England, Alberta Justice and Solicitor General spokesperson, said a date has not been set yet for a preliminary continuation.

Drug Bust

Airdrie RCMP officers executed a search warrant at a residence in southeast Airdrie Sept. 30 and seized cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Constable Jennifer Weedmark could not confirm the amount of drugs seized but said 25-year-old Jordan Lamrock of Airdrie, who is known to police, was found inside the residence and arrested and charged with multiple offences.

Lamrock was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis resin, cannabis marijuana and proceeds of crime, as well as two counts of breach of recognizance.

Weedmark said the detachment’s crime reduction unit executed the search warrant after receiving a tip from the public, adding an undisclosed amount of cash was also seized from the residence.

A girl under the age of 18 was also found inside the residence and was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, according to Weedmark.

Weedmark said Lamrock was not the homeowner and said no one else was found inside the residence at the time the search warrant was executed.

She declined to say when the two accused are scheduled to appear in court, in order to protect the identity of the girl.

“I can’t say exactly how long (Lamrock has) been trafficking for but we received the information within weeks (of executing the search warrant),” Weedmark said.

“(The investigation) was done in a timely manner. A tip was received and (the crime reduction unit) got on it really quickly.”

Lamrock was also charged following a traffic stop in March with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime and failing to comply with the conditions of his release on a previous charge.

He was also arrested at a residence in Luxstone in October 2011 and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon obtained at a crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Officers seized a loaded assault rifle and three grams of cocaine from the residence at that time.
