Former George McDougall High School student, Jessica Lynn Joy, 23, died in a car accident on Highway M-52 outside Saginaw County, Michigan.
Joy was driving a Chevrolet Malibu and was pronounced dead at the scene after she was involved in a head-on collision with a garbage truck as both vehicles were driving along a curve in the road.
As of press time, no charges have been issued and no further information on the accident was known.
According to Joy’s obituary, she was born Nov. 7, 1990, to Scott and Linda in Calgary.
“Right from the start Jessica stole the hearts of her parents, as only a daughter can. Her smile, wit and sense of humour always lit up a room,” the obituary stated.
“She loved to laugh and often kept everyone in stitches with her antics. Music, (Joy’s) greatest passion, was second only to breathing for her. From an early age, writing, composing and singing flowed from her very being.”
Joy was homeschooled until Grade 7, then attended Muriel Clayton Middle School and George McDougall High.
She graduated from Alpena High School, in Alpena Michigan in 2008 and attended Alpena Community College for two years.
She was working as a home-care aide in Alpena. Her funeral was held on Jan. 14 at the Bannan Funeral Home in Alpena, Michigan. A local ceremony will be held on Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at the Faith Community Church in Airdrie.
