Airdrie Rural RCMP assisted the Beiseker RCMP in arresting three men and one woman at a property in Acme on Feb. 28 after a search warrant executed at the residence resulted in the seizure of an undisclosed quantity of marijuana, hash oil and other drug paraphernalia, according to Curtis.

Sergeant Glen Demmon of the Beiseker detachment said the identities of the four who were arrested and charged are not being released “because the investigation is on-going.”

All four were charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and released.

The arrests, according to a release issued by RCMP, came after police received tips from residents in Acme who suspected drug trafficking was taking place at the residence.

Grass fire at Bearspaw Farmer’s Market

Rocky View Fire Services (RVFS) and Cochrane RCMP responded to a grass fire at the Bearspaw Farmer’s Market location near Nagway Road and Highway 1A at 3 p.m. on March 9, according to District Fire Chief Dax Huba.

“The fire was accidentally set by someone being careless with an open flame,” Huba said. “They were burning materials in a parking lot and it was a really windy day and the materials got away and ending catching the grass on fire.”

RVFS was able to quickly contain the fire, which Huba called “just slightly bigger in size than a curling rink.”

“The fire was burning downhill and grass fires don’t like to burn downhill and with the wind,” he said. “They like to pre-heat material as they go, so if it’s burning uphill, it’s going to burn a lot faster towards you.”

Municipal enforcement officers from Rocky View County are investigating the cause of the fire and charges may be laid against the man, according to Huba.

Missing Cochranite found

A 21-year-old Cochrane man with developmental issues, missing from his assisted living facility in Cochrane since March 8, was found by police in Calgary at the Southeast Plaza Mall on Macleod Trail on March 11, according to Cochrane RCMP Sergeant Jeff Campbell.

Robert Donald (Donny) Myers had last been seen around 9 p.m. on March 8 and RCMP had issued an appeal to the media and general public on March 10 for help to locate him.

Foul play was never suspected, although it was described by RCMP as being “out of character” for Myers to go missing. According to Campbell, Myers was picked up by his care worker in Calgary and returned to his residence in Cochrane on March 11.

Vehicle impacts Cochrane home

Cochrane RCMP, RVFS and Alberta EMS responded to a call on March 6 after witnesses reported a woman in her eighties had driven her vehicle into a garage in a gated community in Lower Springbank, according to Huba.

“When crews arrived, they immediately started CPR,” Huba said. “Alberta EMS came and took over the scene from RVFS.”

According to EMS Spokesman Adam Loria, paramedics responding pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

“I can’t speculate as to the cause of death,” Loria said. “She was in a vehicle and the vehicle to some extent impacted a house or a garage. We didn’t transport anyone to hospital and there was, unfortunately, the one death.”
