W.G. Murdoch School sent a special letter to Mayor Nathan Anderson thanking him and council for moving to continue the extended RCMP Safe Roads and Safe Community programs into 2015.
The letter was presented to council as part of Anderson’s council business.
Garry Bell, principal at the school, said he sent the letter to show his appreciation for council’s decision.
“We’ve been fortunate to have a very close working relationship with the Town,” Bell said.
“It’s been great to have conversations with the RCMP and it’s been great for the kids. (RCMP) really like coming in and interacting and having those positive interactions with students.”
The motion to extend the program happened at the Nov. 18 meeting of council where Gladys Brown, vice principal at the school extended her own thanks to RCMP.
Bylaw amended
At the Dec. 2 regular meeting of council, Crossfield city councillors approved amendments to the cemetery bylaw.
The amendment said all monuments have to be granite, marble or bronze, removing the option for wood and wood liners.
The reason, according to Chief Administrative Officer Cheryl Skelly, is because no one uses wood anymore. She said the updates to the bylaw were non-urgent.
Skelly said the councillors did all three readings of the bylaw at the meeting and all members of council passed it unanimously.
