County supports fundraiser for Langdon rec centre

Rocky View County council unanimously approved a request for up to $50,000 in funding to assist the North Bow Facility Board (NBFB) in a fundraising campaign, May 8.

Rocky View County council unanimously approved a request for up to $50,000 in funding to assist the North Bow Facility Board (NBFB) in a fundraising campaign, May 8.

Deputy Reeve Margaret Bahcheli motioned that council approve the allocation of funds, which will be used to hire necessary experts to develop a fundraising strategy to raise $5 million for future amenities at a joint-use recreation facility in Langdon.

Reeve Rolly Ashdown said the funds would allow the board to receive valuable direction and consultation, which will aid them in becoming knowledgeable and self-sufficient in the future.

“We’re encouraging community associations to become self-sufficient when it comes to raising capital,” said Ashdown.

“The North Bow Facility Board has worked conscientiously for many years to move forward with a strategy for creating a joint-use facility in Langdon. The County envisions creating a cultural and recreational hub for residents in Langdon.”

Council was informed by the County’s development planning department that the funding request represents 100 per cent of the total anticipated costs for the project and that council traditionally funds only half of such projects.

However, council was told that staff reviewed the request and found that the project met funding eligibility requirements under County policies.

Councillor Al Sacuta asked that a report on the success of the project be presented to council following completion.

The funds will be allocated from the County’s Public Reserve.
