County funds upgrades to Delacour Community Hall

Rocky View County Council unanimously approved a request from the Delacour Agricultural Society to contribute $11,000 to upgrades to the Delacour Community Hall on May 8. “This is great.

Rocky View County Council unanimously approved a request from the Delacour Agricultural Society to contribute $11,000 to upgrades to the Delacour Community Hall on May 8.

“This is great. We’re absolutely pleased,” said Delacour Agricultural Society Treasurer Cathy Summerscales. “Every dollar that we get that we don’t have to fundraise for really helps.”

The amount represents approximately 47 per cent of the total anticipated cost of replacing the hall’s front doors and windows, as well as an upgraded video surveillance system.

In a report from the County’s community services department, council was informed that the existing doors, which are original to the building, are worn and difficult to adjust, close and lock. The door glass was recently damaged and will be require replacement with a more durable product.

The report also noted that the existing video monitoring camera and software, which was originally installed in 2006, is no longer operational, and a new surveillance system would deter theft and vandalism and contribute to the overall safety of the building’s users.

Councillor Earl Solberg motioned that Council approve the request for funding. The motion was carried unanimously.

The funds will be allocated from the Rocky View East Recreation Board, while an additional $12,310 for the upgrades will come from the Delacour Ag Society and Community Club’s reserve account.

“The Delacour Hall is a valued facility for area residents and we are pleased to assist with improving the security and safety of the building,” said County Reeve Rolly Ashdown.
