County approves first readings

Rocky View County council approved first reading of two zoning applications on May 8.

Councillor Kim Magnuson moved first reading of an application to rezone a 15.05-acre parcel, located roughly eight kilometres west of Calgary at the intersection of Springbank Road and Range Road 33, from Agricultural Holdings District to Public Services District.

The motion was carried unanimously.

Councillor Greg Boehlke then moved first reading of an application to rezone a 28.56-acre area of a 131.44-acre parcel, located four kilometres east of Highway 791 and 3.2 kilometres south of Highway 72, from Ranch and Farm District to Agricultural Holdings District. The motion was carried 8-1, with Magnuson opposed.

County equipment auction

Council unanimously directed County staff to sell off unutilized Caterpillar equipment - four scrapers, one crawler and one compactor - at public auction, May 8.

In a report, County staff indicated that research found similar equipment to have sold for between $600,000 and $1.1 million at auction.

ā€œIā€™m excited about getting potentially half a million dollars in revenue,ā€ said Deputy Reeve Margaret Bahcheli.

A motion to sell the equipment was moved by Councillor Lois Habberfield and carried unanimously.
