A break and enter at a home east of Airdrie Jan. 28 has RCMP looking for the culprits.

Among the items the thieves stole was an expensive 2015 Obsession Phoenix brand compound hunting bow. They also stole jewelry and an undisclosed amount of change.

The two thieves – a man and a woman – fled the scene in an older model green Ford Expedition or Explorer SUV. RCMP describes the woman as having blonde hair and wearing a camouflage-coloured coat.

Suspicious Fire

Cochrane RCMP was called to the scene of a suspicious fire in Morley at 10:57 p.m. on Feb. 1, according to Sergeant Darleen White. The fire, which completely destroyed a home, was the scene of a homicide on Jan. 22.

“We don’t know the cause of the fire,” White said.

“We have information that leads us to believe it is suspicious, but the fire does not affect our investigation because we already had all our evidence gathered from that.”

Gavin Bearhead, 30, of Morley has been charged with manslaughter in the death of Wilfred Junior Amos, 29, also of Morley. Bearhead appeared in Cochrane Provincial Court on Feb. 2, when the case was adjourned to March 1. Bearhead remains in custody.

Recovered Quad

Cochrane RCMP has recovered a 2008 Polaris Quad vehicle stolen from Edmonton at a residence in town, according to White.

A 30-year-old Cochrane resident has been charged with possession of stolen property, two counts of breach of firearms prohibition and having open liquor in a vehicle, after RCMP conducted a high risk traffic stop on Highway 22, near Fireside Drive.

Police had obtained a search warrant for the man’s residence, however when they arrived to conduct the search the man was seen departing the residence with the quad in the back of a truck.

The stolen quad was recovered and a search of the man’s truck also turned up a .22 caliber firearm. The man was also found to be impaired and was given a 72 hour driving prohibition.

“The charges haven’t been officially laid yet, so I can’t give you (the accused’s) name,” White said.

The man is currently in custody in Cochrane and will be in Cochrane Provincial Court on Feb. 23.

Snowmobiles Stolen

Two snowmobiles and a flat-deck trailer were stolen from a rural residence near Burma Road southwest of Airdrie and reported to RCMP on Jan. 30. The owner discovered the theft and called RCMP.

“At approximately 2:50 p.m., we received a complaint of two snowmobiles that were stolen on a flat deck trailer,” said Airdrie RCMP Media Liaison Constable Meagan Fillion. “They had been stolen within the last 14 hours.”

The snowmobiles are a blue 2003 Polaris RMK 800 and a yellow 2003 Skidoo Summit 600. The owner provided RCMP with photos of the vehicles.

“The snowmobiles have a few identifying features,” Fillion said. “On the left side of the Polaris is a gold trigger which is unique.”

The trigger allows the rider to use either hand to operate the throttle.

“Once again we’re asking for the public’s assistance in locating the snowmobiles,” Fillion said.
