At a meeting on Nov. 25, Rocky View County (RVC) Council approved five requests for Community Recreation funding, and a request to participate in an Alberta Community Partnership Grant Application for the Rocky View Regional Handi Bus Society.
The Bow Valley Agricultural Society requested RVC participate in a 50 per cent cost-sharing grant to support maintenance and upgrades to the Indus arena. With a total cost of just more than $81,000, the application includes upgrades to the dehumidification system, sound system for the banquet hall, door repairs, refreshment fridges for the banquet hall and kitchen, and a new dishwasher, as well as a security system with cameras and, for the riding arena, a cultivator and a fuel tank.
Council unanimously approved funding of $40,642 from the Bow North Public Reserve to the Bow Valley Agricultural Society.
Community Recreation Funding was also unanimously approved for the North Bow Community Facility Board to support land preparation work on joint-use land outside of Langdon to house a future high school and recreational amenities. The project will receive $38,737 from the Bow North Public Reserve and $183,286 from the District General Public Reserve, as well as $300,000 from the Rocky View Schools (RVS) Public Reserve.
RVC council also directed administration to write a letter of support for the North Bow Community Facility Board’s provincial Community Facility Enhancement grant application, as the lands are co-owned by RVC and RVS.
Springbank Heritage Club requested $25,000 to cover 50 per cent of the cost to install a potable water line at the Springbank Heritage Centre. Council unanimously approved the request, allocating funding from the Rocky View West Recreation Board’s capital reserve.
Funding in the amount of $100,000 was allocated from the Bearspaw Glendale Recreation Board’s capital reserve to assist the Cochrane Lions Minor Football Association with the cost of purchasing and installing an artificial turf at Bow Valley High School. The request was approved unanimously.
To-date, the Minor Football Association has received approximately $1.49 million of the estimated $1.7 million project costs.
The Friends of Chestermere High School Society’s request for funding was also approved unanimously. To assist with the purchase of retractable seating at the Chestermere High School, $50,000 will be allocated from the Chestermere Conrich Recreation Board’s capital reserve – approximately 48.5 per cent of the total project cost of $103,079.
RVC also unanimously approved a request to participate as a managing partner in a collaborative project to seek Provincial funding for Rocky View Regional Handi Bus Society’s regional program. The county will apply for an Alberta Community Partnership grant of $350,000, through their Intermunicipal Collaboration (IC) component. IC provides funding to assist with capital costs for projects that result in a regional benefit, making it a good fit for a program that provides specialized transportation services throughout RVC.
