Cochrane RCMP arrested a man suspected of attempted murder, June 7.

Christopher Gooder, 29, was arrested after a tip led police to a Cochrane residence.

A warrant was issued for the man’s arrest in relation to stabbing at a house party in the Calgary community of Dover in April. The victim sustained extensive injuries to his head, neck and face and was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

Calgary Police Services put out a plea for public assistance earlier in the day on June 7. A tip led police to the Cochrane home, where Gooder was arrested without incident and later turned over to the Calgary Police Service.

Vehicle stolen

A green Jeep Cherokee was stolen from a rural property near Delacour, sometime in the night between June 7 and 8.

According to police, unknown suspects drove through a back fence to gain entrance. Suspects then drove the Jeep through the hole in the fence.

The owner of the Jeep took a picture, later given to police, of a suspicious vehicle driving around the area after the theft.

Police are looking to speak with the owner of the vehicle.

Charges laid

RCMP have charged two 19-year-olds after six show homes were broken into in Cochrane’s new TRC Ranch subdivision, June 13.

Cochrane residents Tyler James Paron and Morgan Osvaldo Borsa have both been charged with eight counts of break and enter and eight counts of mischief over $5,000.

Cochrane RCMP responded to a complaint of a disturbance around 1 a.m. when officers discovered the break and enters at the show homes and attempted entry at 10 other homes, all of which were unoccupied.

Extensive damage was sustained to windows, flooring and interior fixtures at the showhomes, with damage expected to exceed $100,000.

Dog bite

A dog has been put down after becoming aggressive and biting an 11-year-old boy in Chestermere, June 13.

Chestermere RCMP, the Chestermere Fire Department and EMS personnel tended to the boy, who was bit above the left eye, in the West Creek area, around 8:50 p.m.

According to police, the seven-year-old mixed-breed dog was a family pet.

The boy was taken to a Calgary hospital where he received several stitches to treat the bite. He has since been released.

The family took the dog to a local veterinary clinic where it was euthanized.

Motorcycle safety

It’s motorcycle season once again and Cochrane RCMP is encouraging motorists to be vigilant while on the road.

Drivers can avoid collisions with motorcyclists by using the following tips:

• Take extra care, look twice and watch for motorcyclists, especially at intersections.

• Use mirrors and look over your shoulder before changing lanes.

• Allow space for motorcyclists. Even the slightest contact can cause a collision or injury for the rider.

• Eliminate driving distractions by putting away your cell phone and other electronic devices while driving.

The month of July is the most dangerous for Alberta motorists, with Saturdays being the most common day for collisions. One-third of all collisions take place between 3 and 7 p.m.

During 2004 and 2008, almost 94 per cent of all motorcycle collisions involved passenger vehicles such as cars, pickup trucks and minivans.

Vehicle operator error accounts for 60.4 per cent of the collisions, due to many drivers making left-hand turns across traffic.

Improper lane changes are the second highest cause of collisions.

Over the coming weeks, Cochrane RCMP officers will be setting up Check Stops to promote motorcycle awareness. Cochrane RCMP would like all drivers to practice and promote motorcycle safety and awareness with friends, family and neighbours in an effort to reduce motorcycle collisions.

If you have any information on any unsolved crime, contact your local RCMP Detachment or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
