The Rocky View County Fire Department was called upon to extinguish a burning car on Highway 2 just north of the Highway 566 overpass on July 10 at around 6:30 p.m.
The vehicle was travelling northbound on Highway 2 when the driver pulled over after experiencing what he believed to be engine trouble, according to an RCMP press release.
The driver was unable to locate any issues and returned to his vehicle and at that time he noticed flames coming through the firewall and into the passenger compartment of the vehicle.
The vehicle quickly became engulfed in flames, but the driver managed to escape without injury.
Northbound traffic at the location was reduced to two lanes for about an hour to allow emergency crews to contain the fire.
The cause of the fire has beendetermined to be a mechanical malfunction in the engine compartment.
