Town workers and volunteers deserve our respect

Dear editor; Over the last while, it seems every time I look in the paper there is something negative about the town of Crossfield, its staff or its representatives either in letters to the editor, in articles or recently during the election campaign

Dear editor; Over the last while, it seems every time I look in the paper there is something negative about the town of Crossfield, its staff or its representatives either in letters to the editor, in articles or recently during the election campaign and at the candidates forum.

Well, I’ve decided that it is time for some positive input and I would like to personally thank the Town and its staff for a job well done.

I would like to thank them for:

• The times they have to be up extremely early in the morning so they can get the sidewalks and major roads cleared because there was a heavy snowfall the night before or during blizzards when they’ve had to work all night.

• The evenings and weekends they have to run over to the Splash Park, Arena, Community Hall or some other venue because there was some issue.

• The effort they put into organizing and putting on special events - Family Day toboggan party; Easter egg hunt; breakfast during Pete Knight Days and controlling the parade route;

• Movies at the community hall and movie in the park; and recently the Halloween activities.

Because they are running these events for you, the citizens of Crossfield, they are being pulled away from their own families and may or may not be able to participate in the event with them.

Over the last 25 years or so I have volunteered for numerous Crossfield organizations or activities including being involved on committees sponsored by the Town. I have worked closely with the staff in the office, public works and council and can honestly say I have had nothing but support from them. I understand that human nature says we don’t always like everyone and some are harder to deal with than others but if treated with respect that’s what you get in return.

I would also like to thank all of the other hard working volunteers that put in countless hours making sure that there are programs for our children, the general population and our seniors, as well as all the organizations that support the community at large such as the Legion, Lions, Elks, etc.

It was wonderful to see the high number of people that took the time to vote in the last municipal election and during the election we heard lots of promises from the new mayor and council.

I only hope that the new council realizes that they have many good people already in place to work with for them to help achieve these goals and promises.

Again thank you and good work.

Robyn Nash, Crossfield
