Dear editor,

The Airdrie Urgent Care facility was only a name to me until last week. I wasn’t even sure where it was located, but I certainly know now.

At 3:44 p.m., a friend phoned asking to be taken to the doctor. The distressed voice was very clear, so I immediately drove to the house and we proceeded to the doctor’s office.

At 4 p.m., the medical office assistant regretfully told us that no doctor was available, but that we should go to urgent care.

At 4:10 p.m., when we entered urgent care, my friend was ushered right to a chair and a competent nurse began to take a history and vital signs.

At 4:20 p.m., although there were other patients in the waiting room, the true nature of urgent care was demonstrated as my friend was then taken to an examining room and immediately hooked up to various monitoring machines.

At 4:55 p.m., the ambulance arrived to take my friend for further care.

Elapsed time – one hour and one minute.

My friend and I want to say a big thank you to the health care workers who were there to help in a very timely manner. You should know there are those who appreciate your care.

Thank you also to the other people who so patiently waited while someone with a more serious illness was quickly taken care of.

It is with a thankful heart that I can report that my friend is back home and feeling much better.

I shudder to think what might have transpired, had there not been an urgent care facility right here in Airdrie – now if it could only be available 24/7.

Audrey Hovis, Airdrie
